Je ne sais pas

I do not know why it seems that something in me is missing.

I do not know whether I am doing the right thing.

I do not know the name of the familiar girl I saw two days ago on the street.

I do not know if I can bear such great responsibility in a week's time.

I do not know a lot of things.

But I do know that God has a plan for everyone.

There is no fate but that which we make for ourselves

On this frigid November morning, an important document was signed...

And my fate for the next three years is sealed...

Or in Sam's footballing phraseology, "The transfer has been completed and the new signing is unveiled."

Juventus edged out Inter in nine-goal thriller

After guiding Internazionale to their first Scudetto in over ten years last season, manager Leonard Lim ended his ten-year love affair with Internazionale and embarked on a new challenge by taking over the reins of Juventus this summer.

Figo trying to find a way past ZambrottaIronically, Juventus was to play Inter in the season opening fixture, the Italian Super Cup, at the Delle Alpi. With home advantage, the bookmakers tipped Juventus to beat Inter in this heavyweight match.

The opening ten minutes of the match provided a rude shock to the Juventus players who came into the match on the back of a 7-1 friendly victory over FC Utrecht three days ago. Inter goalscoring machine, Adriano wasted no time in announcing his intention to win the Golden Boot by blasting a goal in the very first minute. It seemed the central defensive pairing of Cannavaro and Thuram could do nothing to stop him on his rampage. Juventus' nightmare was to continue as Obafemi Martins scored two quick goals in the 6th and 9th minute and Inter raced into a 3-0 lead over Juventus.

Juventus, however, was made of tougher material and their resilience showed as the most remarkable of all comebacks was orchestrated. Juve's own scoring machine Zlatan Ibrahimovic provided a glimmer of hope for the fans by scoring in the 31st minute and veteran playmaker Pavel Nedved added another one in the 43rd minute to put Juve just one goal behind Inter as the game went into half-time break.

Cannavaro congratulates NedvedCaptain Del Piero led by example to equalize in the 54th minute and sent the Juve fans into an uproar. Juventus had came back from the dead! It might perhaps be the dawning realization that the game was slipping away from their hands that Inter players began to show their frustration and cracked under pressure. Adriano promptly hacked down Emerson in the 55th minute and was sent off for the rough challenge. Emerson, too, was unable to continue in the match and was replaced by Manuele Blasi. It was later diagnosed that Emerson will be out for four months.

Juve, however, was unable to make use of the numerical advantage and the match went into extra-time. Signs of stress in Inter players were beginning to show as Samuel brought Ibrahimovic down in the penalty area in the 93rd minute. Ibrahimovic duly converted the penalty kick to send the Juve fans into delirium.

Momentum was clearly on Juve's side as Ibrahimovic completed his hat-trick in the 112th minute to make victory beyond Inter's grasp. Young Inter striker Daniele Capelloni beat Thuram to a header and scored in the 117th minute to set up a nail-biting finish but Juve held on and continued the tradition of winning the Super Cup much to the delight of the Juve fans. 5-4 the final score. We had just witnessed the mother of all comebacks.

And they lived happily ever after

Received my first "red bomb" a few weeks ago from my "buddy" Marilyn. Attended her wedding dinner on Wednesday night at the Fullerton hotel. It was a grand affair and I thought I could do some networking that night. In the end, I only managed to "re-network" with Weilong, whom I have not seen in half a year.

Got to know that he blogs too and I have added the link to his blog on this page. Got to know from him that many of our ex-classmates are now in the teaching profession. Weilong himself is a Chinese teacher and so is Marilyn. That explains why all the guests at my table are all teachers (all of them are Marilyn's classmates in NIE). In fact, I believed that half the guests that night are teachers. It was indeed an honour to be surrounded by the intelligentsia of Singapore, and I realized I had to speak carefully lest I exposed my intellectual inadequacies in front of them and make a fool of myself.

I guess as my generation transits into young working adults, more of my friends will be engaging in this red artillery bombardment. Marilyn's wedding is merely a harbinger of things to come.

Ahhh... The exuberance of youth

The inaugural HKGRC Kindy Children's Sports Day 2005
Was helping out with my last major event last Saturday, the inaugural HKGRC Kindy Children's Sports Day. So many kindergarten kids shouting and running about. Such enthusiasm and innocence. Compare them to the backstabbing, selfish adults all around them. What happens to us as we grow up? Why do we lose all the good wholesome qualities and pick up all the negative and evil attributes? I guess this is what we call socialization.

The children played in six tele-matches and the team from Hong Kah North PCF student centres emerged as the champions. They got off to a strong start by winning the first three games, laying the foundation for victory.

Felt good to see the kids and the parents enjoying themselves. I guess it was a fitting finale to my stint in YT.

In Retrospect

Two quotes that struck a chord with me. Would like to share with all.

"You may think your boss is stupid, but remember if he was smart you probably wouldn't have a job"
--John Gotti, Mobster

A person who smiles in the face of adversity probably has a scapegoat.

Beyond Redemption?

Should I tell her the unvarnished truth?

Will it serve any good?

Will she listen and change for the better? Or will she see this as a feeble and incredulous assault on her character and integrity?

Will justice ever be done?
